Fall 2008Welcome
I welcome you all to the new academic year at St. Peter Central Catholic. We have experienced some changes throughout the summer to our staff and enrollment. Many new students, at all grades have been welcomed to our school this week. Three new teachers join our faculty bringing with them an enthusiasm for teaching and learning. In addition we have been blest to receive a grant from the Wilson Language Foundation, allowing us to pilot a new program “Just Words” in Grades 3-7. With the grant comes a reading specialist, who will work with our teachers creating a reading intervention period each day so that we can maximize the reading potential in all our students in Kindergarten through Grade Eight. It is an exciting time and one for which we are most grateful to Barbara Wilson and her staff. St. Peter’s has been involved with Mrs. Wilson and the Reading program for the past eighteen years. We are fortunate that most of our staff has been certified in the teaching methods that are used. St. Peter’s teachers appear on many of the international training videos used to train teachers around the world. Enrollment also has increased in spite of this declining and challenging economy. As Headmaster, I appreciate the tremendous sacrifices that many of you are making to send your children to our school. Children have joined our school from several local communities as well as from different parts of the world. The diversity represented in our school enriches all of our lives. The Diocese of Worcester has named this year, “The Year of St. Paul”. The times in which he lived and preached the Gospel message are similar to the world in which we live. As St. Paul, we too strive to model the Gospel message which Jesus has given to us. Our community is always ready to reach out to those less fortunate with our “helping hands” canned goods for St. Peter’s Parish, as well as many of the other examples of ways to serve the greater community. We look forward to a great year at St. Peter’s. When the children arrived on Wednesday their enthusiasm and warmth strengthened our school and helped us set our sights on another exciting year. Peace, Mrs. Meg Kursonis Headmaster
